A color pick meant to represent a year makes us aware of the state of our society and what it needs or will need. This yearly color pick by Pantone is made, like every year, based on extensive research, analysis of current culture and trend-forecasting, and intends to represent the state of the world and societal needs in color form. The (s)election of a color can shape our mindsets as much as we need colors to shape our ideas, feelings and emotions. And instead of chasing the “WHAT’S NEXT”, we are going to explore the “WHAT.IS.NOW”! We are completely rethinking our approach to Time and valuing the present, more than ever before, being way more grateful of what we do have NOW because God only knows what tomorrow will bring! (Generation No Tomorrow 2.0 here we come ) ) The Future is now. Our world is slowing down, rethinking its rhythms and at the same becoming more and more complex. This year has been a gigantic earthquake on all levels of our lives. #1: this year has been feeling like the longest year, full of surprises and the 2+ months that are left will probably feel like what was 6 months in 2019 ) and won’t fail to disappoint us. Yes you read right, we are going to talk about the current color of 2020 because: Gabe seems to have it all, from old reds to new blues.Īs Pantone will soon reveal its color of the year 2021, I wanted to take some time to reflect on Classic Blue 19-4052 color of the year 2020 so far and its sister shades of deep blue! ![]() ![]() And below the books…… shelves and shelves of raw pigments containers, stacked on each other. On the right, his library of (magic) books about Art and the history of color making. It seems the portrait's characters are alive, softly whispering and the background seems to be moving. Working with this concept of layering has given his work such a unique vibrancy, an illusion of gentle movement. Gabe explains to me how he created one artwork’s background color, appearing to look black but in reality being several layers of dark green and dark red. I have gotten lost in the incredible precision of his paintings, the ruffles of the delicate garments, the textures of the skins, the “so-real-looking” hair! Gabe has been painting for about 30 years now, and his realism techniques are absolutely mind-blowing. The walls on the left are completely covered with various portraits. I was excited already that his studio is located in an Art Space I had just discovered the day before (Coincidence?) but then I entered his studio and wow!
